This past month I had the pleasure of speaking about the importance of branding at Thousand Oaks Winery in Marble, Hill, MO, at their monthly wine club meeting. While there I also got to pick up some of the latest wine labels I designed. On this last print run, I had the pleasure of working with Troy Hood (thood@fslabel.com) at FS Label and he came up with a cheaper alternative to the gold foil Thousand Oaks Winery had been using. I really love the end result:

Uncommon Threads Jewelry expanded this last month into social media – yeah! The owner, Randi Chervitz, now has a Twitter page, a Facebook fan page and a custom Facebook landing/welcome page.

Let’s start the showcase with the Twitter background. Important things I needed to include: Randi’s photo, Uncommon Threads jewelry logo, the fabric from the website and examples of the jewelry she creates.

Next up is the Facebook fan page that I set up for Uncommon Threads Jewelry. For the profile or “wall”, I combined her logo, website info and most popular piece of jewelry. I also uploaded a photo album of her top pieces and set up her blog to automatically publish onto her Facebook page:

Lastly, I mentioned above that I also created a custom Facebook landing/welcome page. Not sure what a landing page is? You can set up Facebook pages to direct all potential “fans” to land on a custom tab. This tab is basically a mini-web page that can include – links to your website, any special promotion, and sign-up for your e-newsletter. Very cool!

If you are a regular reader of my website, you’ll know that I think that Facebook is a great tool for your small business. To build on that concept, I have debuted new social media package pricing for your small business. But hurry, the pricing is only available April 20 – May 20.

Last month one of the projects I designed was a logo for hollajane photography. Hollie, the owner, requested a fun, bright and swirly logo. Her target market includes families, babies, engaged couples and pets. I really wanted to convey the personality of the owner – she is a very fun and happy woman, who loves color. Of the logo ideas that I presented, this one was the first one I sketched & designed. While I created other logo options, my eye kept coming back to this one – as it kept screaming “this is so Hollie!” I was very happy to find out that the client’s immediate first choice was this one as well.

This book was a very fun project I worked on with author Terri McEachern and illustrator Katie Wool. I met with Terri and we went through the illustrations that Katie had created. Terri needed me to do the following: One, clean up the pencil marks on the illustrations, move some pieces of the illustrations around to make room for text, type set the book, create a secondary message system and create a cover design.

Here is the cover design I created:

I was very excited to get a mention in the book:

Below you can see how I used three different fonts for the book. One primary, one for secondary messaging and the other for signs. I also used two different colors – black and red. The red highlights spelling tricks.

I also added boxes and banners to the illustrations so the secondary tips did not fight with the primary story. In the photo below, the tips are in the frame on the wall and in the curved banner.

This layout was one of the toughest, since it had to convey so much information without disturbing the illustration. I created the boxes and the curved banner to set the type apart.

Have an idea for a book? Email me at becca@bauerhaus.com to set up a meeting to discuss it.

I designed this e-commerce web site for Uncommon Threads Jewelry. The site features gorgeous handmade jewelry by the lovely Randi Chervitz. Randi has been a client of mine for over 6 years. The first project I worked on for her was creating her:

Overall, I focused on creating a clean site to leave the emphasis on her jewelry. One of the key client requests was the ability for the customer to search multiple ways. Why you may ask? Because some people are searching for a cute pair of earrings and others want a whole accessory set – earrings, bracelet, necklace, etc.

I worked with programmer Erik Lutenegger creating this site and together we broke it down into 3 ways to search. The first way, shown below, is by category, such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.

The second way to search is by collection. For instance, the piece below is in the hammered collection. You can then further view other similar hammered jewelry on the bottom scroll bar.

The final way to search is through an advanced product search. Use this if you know what exact product you are searching for:

Another feature we added was rotating images to the home page. Here is another view of the home page with a different piece of jewelry.

This media kit was created for SBTV.com, the leader in small business television online. The client came to me with the need for a media kit, but wanted to keep the cost low. Because of this I chose a smaller size of a 6″ x 9″ pocket folder and had the 16 pages saddle stitched in. Printing was done by InkRockit.com.

It also features a back pocket with a business card slot. I also designed the business card.
