Promoting Ridership and Community through Ten Toes + Transit

At Bauerhaus Design, we believe that great design can do more than just look good—it can create a positive impact and help a community thrive. That’s why we were so excited to partner with Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) and the St. Clair County Transit District on their innovative Ten Toes + Transit program. This unique initiative was designed to get people moving, both physically and on the public transit system.

The core of the Ten Toes + Transit program is to promote healthier lifestyles by connecting physical activity with the use of public transportation, such as MetroLink and MetroBus. The program, which has introduced over 10,000 people to the St. Louis region’s transit system, encourages participants to explore the community by foot and by rail or bus. With nine volunteer-led walking groups, the program offers a social and educational way to discover new destinations accessible by transit.

Our role was to visually bring this great idea to life. We were tasked with creating a compelling brand identity and a range of materials to promote the program and encourage participation. This included:

Logo Design: A distinctive logo that captured the essence of walking and transit.

Poster and Brochure Design: Informative and eye-catching print materials to spread the word.

Website Graphics: Digital assets that seamlessly integrated with the CMT website.

Advertising: Compelling ads and posters to reach a broader audience.

The goal was to build participation and, in turn, increase ridership and knowledge of the transit system. Participants who registered for the 12-week program received a walking kit, including a pedometer and transit tickets, to get them started. The program’s success is a testament to the power of thoughtful community programs and the effective design that supports them.

We’re proud to have contributed to the success of Ten Toes + Transit, helping CMT connect with the community and promote a healthier, more active way of life. The project is a perfect example of how design can serve a greater purpose, and we look forward to adding samples of our design work to this post soon.
